Message :The engine output is multiplied by the transmission gears. The multiplication differs for each gear. The dyno machine needs the gear info to work...it will "correct away" the gearing (but not any inefficiency of the transmission).

The dyno has a hookup to your engine for a tach and it knows the rpm of its roller. Therefore it doesn't really need any info about your gearing since it already knows your engine RPM and the roller RPM, and can derive what the exact gear ratio is from the engine to the roller.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
